1 Hutchings, Arthur (Foreword by Kingsley Amis) Mozart : The Man The Musician
New York, New York, USA Schirmer Books : A Division of Macmillan Publising Co., Inc. 1975 First American Edition Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 320 illustrations, 170 in color
Laminated pictorial covers on boards. Total 244 pp. includes acknowledgements and indices. Each section is numbered individually, 113 pp. for Mozart : The Man and 131 pp. for Mozart : The Musician. Volume has light edgewear and faint rubbing. Now in protective wrap. From the foreword "... I had known for years that he [Hutchings] was my best guide to Mozart's music; to write about Mozart's life clearly called for a rather different set of abilities. Hutchings has turned out to possess those too. He shows us what the man was like by showing what he did and said, how he behaved to his family, his friends, employers, patrons, colleagues and rivals. The story tells itself without manipulation from the historian, and its principal character is, with the inevitability of truth, an amalgam, irreducible to any comprehensive description. Hutchings Mozart is all the behaviors put together. And thrown in for good measure, there is a fascinating account of what musical life was like in the later part of the 18th century: the lodgings and the coach-journeys, the courts and concert-rooms, the jobs, the money, the disappointments, the illnesses, the passing moments of glory. Arthur Hutchings has succeeded in his undertaking, which, in view of the stature of its central figure, is saying a good deal."

2 Amis, Kingsley The Green Man
New York, NY, U.S.A. Harcourt, Brace and World, Inc. 1969 First American Edition, 1970 Hard Cover Good Good
Green paper on boards, white cloth on spine. Volume has slight edgewear. Could be called a little loose in spine, but not by me. Jacket slightly worn, mostly at head of back strip. A slight sort of wrinkle at front panel edge and the color is coming off at the spine and front folds. Now in clear cover. "Who would have predicted that Kingsley Amis might someday write a novel dealing with the supernatural? This novel deals with a number of matters - sex for instance, as well as morality and faith - but the supernatural dominates. A cunning blend of terror, suspense, satire, and metaphysical speculation."
