Red cloth on boards, gilt lettering, pictorial front cover panel and spine. 311 pp plus 4 pp ads. Volume is solid, fairly tight. Light soiling to three or four pages chapter five. Front pastedown has some scuffing, maybe bookplate removed. The end page is loose and seems to have torn from the pastedown at the hinge. Worn all edges, some spots to the boards. Head/heel of spine slightly frayed. Now in protective wrap. "In his writings, George W. Cable sketched life of his native Louisiana and New Orleans. Cable wrote of violence and death, of racial intermarriage, and of contradictions and complexities.
