There is a tape repair that has yellowed on the bottom half of the front foldover. Now in clear cover. "The Tunnel of Love, by one of The New Yorker's most popular author's is about a cartoonist, Augie Poole, who can't sell anything but his gags, yet insists on claiming the ancient prerogatives of the artist, including that of a free-form sex life. His story is counterpointed with that of the narrator, a magazine art editor saddled with the burden of rejecting Augie's drawings while trying to wangle away his jokes. Few writers can so skillfully address themselves to both the brain and the abdomen as Peter De Vries. The odds against finding a comic novel as distinguished from a merely facetious one are notorious, and that makes The Tunnel of Love doubly welcome in any season."
