Fitzgerald, F. Scott Tender Is the Night New York, NY, U.S.A. Charles Scribner's Sons Reprint Edition Hard Cover Good No Jacket Aqua color cloth on boards, black cloth on spine. Volume has lightly edgewear. From Wikipedia, "It should be noted that two versions of this novel are in print. The first version, published in 1934, uses flashbacks whilst the second revised version, prepared by Fitzgerald's friend the noted critic Malcolm Cowley on the basis of notes for a revision left by Fitzgerald, is ordered chronologically; this version was first published posthumously in 1951. Critics have suggested that Fitzgerald's revision was undertaken due to negative reviews of the temporal structure of the book on its first release." From internet review: "Like many of Fitzgerald's other books, Tender Is the Night focuses on the themes of wealth and the corruption it brings to people's lives. Set in Europe during the interwar years, the book also addresses themes particular to European history and politics, such as the effect wealthy Americans had on Europe and the ascent of capitalism on the continent. Largely drawn on his own experiences with the mental health industry, Tender Is the Night also addresses issues of mental illness and psychiatry. Finally, with a cast of female characters who are largely portrayed as controlling, manipulative, and ultimately stifling to Diver's intellectual development, Fitzgerald may be remarking unfavorably on the role that women, particularly Zelda, had in his own life and career." Fitzgerald, F. Scott The Last Tycoon (Alternate Title: The Love of the Last Tycoon) New York, NY, U.S.A. Charles Scribner's Sons Reprint Edition Hard Cover Good No Jacket Aqua color cloth on boards, black cloth on spine. Owners name on the top page edges. Volume has tips very slightly bumped, light foxing, a little cocked from shelving. Tight covers and pages. From Wikipedia: "The Last Tycoon is a novel centering on the life of film executive Monroe Stahr in Hollywood in the 1930's. Stahr is modeled on the life of film executive Irving Thalberg, though only in ideas and ambitions, not in actual life events. The notes for the novel were collected and edited by the literary critic Edmund Wilson, who was a close friend of Fitzgerald, and the unfinished novel was published in 1941 as The Last Tycoon. Notes on the title: The Love of the Last Tycoon was originally published as The Last Tycoon, though there is now critical agreement that Fitzgerald intended the former as the title. It wasn't until the 1993 publication, as part of The Cambridge Edition of the Works of F. Scott Fitzgerald, edited by Matthew J. Bruccoli, that the work first appeared as The Love of the Last Tycoon. According to Bruccoli, Fitzgerald wanted the title to "sound like a movie title and completely disguise the tragic-heroic content of the book". Price:
